My talk will focus on the decline of local news and why this is troubling for society. We’ll take a look at the news landscape to figure out why revenue has dropped and small titles have been forced to merge.
We’ll discuss how local news plays a vital role in democracy reporting, upholding trust in institutions and encouraging pride in communities. We’ll also consider how the loss of specific news outlets has contributed to tragedies such as Grenfell.
I’ll share quirky stories of reporting during the pandemic—some of which will hopefully be familiar to Roehampton students, before ending on a Q+A.
