Richard Lessey
Richard Lessey is a second year MFA Choreography student born in Trinidad and Tobago. He is a freelance choreographer, teacher, musical artist and dancer. For the past two decades, Richard has lived in Oslo, Norway where his main roles were as the Head of the Musical Dance Department at Baardar Academy; teacher at the Norwegian Opera Ballet School; and Head of the Dance Department at the Norwegian College of Musical Theatre.
Richard has taught, conducted workshops and choreographed for primary and secondary schools, tertiary education institutions, youth organisations, dance schools, dance companies, choirs, amateur/ semi-professional organisations, and corporations in Trinidad, England and Norway. As a freelance choreographer, he has choreographed school shows, musicals, concerts, competitions, revues, cabarets, and fashion shows.
His performing credits are extensive and include The Book of Mormon (Norway), La Cage Aux Folles (Denmark), Disney’s The Lion King (Germany), and a performing member of Tabanka Dance Ensemble (Norway), the Metamorphosis Dance Company (Trinidad) and the Noble Douglas Dance Company Inc. (Trinidad).
Richard holds a Master of Arts in Education (Dance Teaching) from the University of Bath/ Royal Academy of Dance.
